Emotional Intelligence Training Malaysia: EQ in Communication
Emotional intelligence applied to difficult workplace conversations
EQ in Communication is a two-day soft skills programme teaching participants to recognise their own emotional response, read others accurately, and hold difficult workplace conversations without escalation. Redefine Learning Asia delivers it using the PLACE method, DISC profiling, and assertive communication practice, with participants rehearsing conversations drawn from their own workplace rather than generic case studies.
When This Programme Is the Right One
The symptom: Messages get misread, small disagreements escalate, and people avoid the conversation that would fix it.
Start from the symptom your team is showing rather than the programme name — buying in the wrong order usually convinces leadership that training does not work. Compare every programme side by side in our symptom-to-programme comparison table.
Learning Outcomes
- Participants can name their own default response under pressure and recognise it in the moment.
- Participants read colleague communication styles using DISC and adapt delivery accordingly.
- Difficult conversations are rehearsed and coached, so the first real attempt is not the first attempt.
- Participants leave with a script for one specific conversation they have been avoiding.
Programme Agenda
| Time | Module | What Happens |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1, 9.00am – 10.30am | Self-awareness | Emotional triggers, default responses under stress, and the gap between intent and impact. |
| Day 1, 10.45am – 1.00pm | DISC profiling | Participants profile themselves, then map their actual team, identifying where style clashes are causing friction. |
| Day 1, 2.00pm – 5.00pm | The PLACE method | A structured approach to charged conversations, practised in coached pairs with facilitator feedback. |
| Day 2, 9.00am – 11.00am | Assertive communication | Distinguishing assertive from aggressive and from passive, with rehearsal on real scenarios participants bring. |
| Day 2, 11.15am – 1.00pm | Difficult conversation lab | Each participant runs one real conversation they have been avoiding, coached live. |
| Day 2, 2.00pm – 4.30pm | Conflict de-escalation and close | Handling escalation, repairing after a bad exchange, and a written personal commitment. |
Activities
Trigger mapping
Structured self-audit identifying the specific situations that produce a participant’s worst communication.
DISC team map
The actual team plotted on the DISC grid, making existing friction visible as a style mismatch rather than a personality fault.
Coached conversation pairs
Live rehearsal with facilitator interruption and correction — the core of the programme.
Escalation ladder
A graded exercise showing how a routine exchange becomes a conflict, and where it could have been stopped.
