Negotiation Skills Training Malaysia: Negotiation & Influencing

Commercial and internal negotiation practice for managers who concede too fast

Negotiation & Influencing Skills is a one-day soft skills programme teaching participants to prepare a negotiation position, trade concessions instead of donating them, and influence decisions without formal authority. Redefine Learning Asia delivers it through scored live negotiation rounds — buyer-seller, vendor-contract, and internal resource scenarios — where every agreement is priced, so participants see exactly what their current habits cost.

When This Programme Is the Right One

The symptom: Discounts get given away in the first five minutes, vendors dictate terms, and internally the loudest voice wins resources regardless of the business case.

Start from the symptom your team is showing rather than the programme name — buying in the wrong order usually convinces leadership that training does not work. Compare every programme side by side in our symptom-to-programme comparison table.

Learning Outcomes

  • Participants prepare every negotiation with a documented target, walk-away point, and concession ladder.
  • Concessions are traded for value in return, never given to relieve social discomfort.
  • Participants recognise and counter the five most common pressure tactics used against Malaysian buyers and sellers.
  • Influencing without authority is practised on a real internal ask each participant currently owns.

Activities

Scored negotiation rounds

Every settlement has a number attached. The gap between morning and afternoon scores is the programme working.

Concession ladder build

Participants price their own concessions for a real live negotiation before they practise trading them.

Pressure tactic gauntlet

Facilitators run the tactics in sequence at speed — participants call the tactic by name and respond with the counter.

Influence map

For one real internal ask, participants map the decision-maker, the blockers, and the sequence of conversations that gets to yes.

Negotiation & Influencing Skills FAQs

Both, in separate cohorts where possible. Sales and procurement teams run commercial scenarios; managers and individual contributors run vendor, salary, and internal resource scenarios. The preparation discipline and concession mechanics are identical — only the scenario bank changes.
Every scenario has a hidden settlement range. When pairs settle, the price is plotted against that range for the whole room, so participants see who captured value and who donated it. The score makes the habit visible — that visibility is what changes behaviour.
In the pressure tactics lab, yes. Facilitators run the tactics live at full commitment, because a tactic you have only read about still works on you. One you have been hit with and countered in the room does not.
Against a commercial metric agreed with the sponsor before delivery — average discount given, vendor terms improved, or a specific negotiation the team faces — reviewed 4 to 8 weeks after the programme.
Quoted per group; one-day facilitated programmes typically run RM8,000–RM15,000 per group. The final quote depends on group size, venue, and how much the content is customised, and eligible employers can claim it under HRD Corp SBL-Khas.
